book report time

It has been some time since a book has been so gently but profoundly insistent that I not put it down. Ekaterina Sedia's The Alchemy of Stone is a beautifully written tale of an emancipated automaton caught in the clockwork of human politics and emotion. It is a tale of love and power and freedom and necessity, of promise and betrayal, of hope and loss in the face of events that overwhelm us. Reading this, I understand better what I am striving for in my own writing.
