new math

Insurance plan coverage: 80%
Patient Responsibility: 20%

Procedure 1: $8000
insurance pays: $1660
patient pays: $6340

Procedure 2: $5600
insurance pays: $719.20
patient pays: $4880.80

Procedure 3: $4800
insurance pays: $1120.80
patient pays: $3679.20

Procedure 4: $1455
insurance pays: $0
patient pays: $1455

Procedure 5: $1700
insurance pays: $290.40
patient pays: $1409.60

-----------------------

Total: $21555
insurance pays: 80% == $3790.40
patient pays: 20% == $17764.60

(in old math, the insurance company pays 17.5%, not 80%)

------------------------

I was expecting about $5k, more or less, out of pocket. But then again, I'm old. I learned math before Uncle Ronnie showed us that we could balance the budget by increasing spending and decreasing revenue. I'm not sure how to swing this, or what to do. If anyone has any suggestions, this is the time.
