an' it harm none, do what thou wilt

the goal, ultimately, is to have a net positive impact on the world: on the environment, on the culture, on the people whom we come in contact with and with whom we fill our lives, or, if we can't manage that, to pass without trace.

but it seems to me that sometimes the best we can do is minimize the damage. and that happens. sometimes conflicting needs dictate that someone is going to get hurt, and there's no avoiding it.

to fail in those situations to minimize the damage is, to me, a gross failure of one's responsibilities.
