still, it was oddly surreal. ran into two neighbors. the first was telling me about her lawsuit to get her dog's vet bills paid after it was gutted by another dog. the second was the woman whose autistic 6 year old went screaming down the street faster than she could run last autumn. i had chased him down and got him to calm down enough to walk himself back home. i haven't seen either of them since. today, she told me that he's in a new program and he's doing much, much better. huzzah!
stopped at the liquor store for sake. it's medicinal. something about hot sake that clears the sinuses and soothes the throat. was in line, and the clerk asked the woman he was waiting on how she was doing.
"Ok, I'm doing well, thanks," she said. "How are you?"
"Oh, I'm doing wonderfully!" He was all smiles. "Everything is just wonderful!"
The woman was a little surprised by this response. "Great," she said.
"It is," he agreed. He started ringing up stuff. "It's not a trial run," he added. "You can't count on an afterlife, or reincarnation, or anything like that. We only get one shot, and I've decided that it should be wonderful."
