I'm conflicted.

I'm writing a story that takes place in 1929. Third person.

Part of me wants to keep the language somewhat period, which includes referring to women as "girls."

Another part of me is troubled by this, both personally, and in terms of what the readers might think.

The other option is that I do that when the male character is the POV character, and don't when the female character is the POV character.

Thoughts?
